The bar’s length shows where the number sits among Brno’s 48 neighbourhoods: a short bar is one of the lowest in Brno, a full one the highest. The vertical mark is the Brno average (the neighbourhood in the middle: half of Brno has more, half less). The colour says whether that is good: dark green is the best fifth of Brno, light green above average, yellow around average, orange below it and red the worst fifth. For rent, travel and noise less is better, for parks, shops and services more. Hover over a bar to see how many neighbourhoods this one beats. The numbers are the same as further down the page and in the “Good for…” profiles.

For each profile we compare the neighbourhood with the other Brno neighbourhoods. The breakdown shows the figures the score is calculated from, and how much better the neighbourhood is than the others.

How we calculate it, and sources
Rent without services and energy for an unfurnished flat over 5 years old in good condition, without a balcony or parking, from rental offers. The Ministry of Finance’s rent map is per cadastral area, and Brno’s neighbourhoods are exactly these areas. Monthly = price per m² × the usual floor area of rented flats in the South Moravian Region. Brno = the neighbourhoods’ average by population. Actual rents vary with condition, furnishing and floor.

A typical trip from an address in the neighbourhood: walk to the best stop and on by public transport arriving at náměstí Svobody between 7:30 and 8:30, without waiting for the first connection. Calculated from the IDS JMK timetables.
At night we calculate the trip from Hlavní nádraží (where the night buses meet) leaving between 0:30 and 1:30 on a weeknight, including waiting for the night connection and the walk home.

Details
Parks, forests and all greenery (plus gardens, meadows, orchards, vineyards, allotments, cemeteries) are counted from the neighbourhood’s area, the distance to a park (from 0.2 ha) or forest (from 1 ha) as the crow flies as the median over the neighbourhood’s addresses.

We count places from OpenStreetMap and the share of addresses with at least one such place within 500 m as the crow flies (about 6 minutes on foot). OpenStreetMap is filled in by volunteers, small shops and new businesses may be missing.

How we calculate it, and sources
Places with an insurer contract (insurance pays): 12, without: 4.
Contracted = the practice has a contract for that specialty with a health insurer and insurance pays for the care; we name the insurers from the lists published by VZP, ČPZP and VoZP. No contract = no insurer has a contract with it and you pay yourself. A practice without a label works with an insurer that doesn’t publish a list (OZP, ZPŠ, ZPMV or RBP); check the contract with them.
We count the places where care is provided (practice, polyclinic, hospital), not individual doctors, per 1,000 residents of the 2021 census. We can’t count paediatricians per child for a neighbourhood, you’ll find them for the district.
