What locals pay

The price map shows a typical price, not what people actually pay. That is why on every neighbourhood's page we ask locals how much they pay in rent and service charges. Answers are anonymous and we only show the median of at least five answers.

What to budget for besides rent

  • Service charges and energy. Heating, water, the lift and cleaning of the building are paid in advance and settled once a year. In an older building with a gas boiler, expect different amounts than in a new build with central heating.
  • Deposit (kauce). A landlord may ask for at most three months' rent and must return it, with interest, when the tenancy ends. More in the guide to the tenancy agreement.
  • Agency fee. When renting through an estate agent, there is often also a one-off fee, usually equal to one month's rent.
  • Transport. A cheaper rent on the outskirts can be eaten up by a longer commute. How long it takes to get to the centre from each neighbourhood is in the guide where to live in Brno.
