Where the figures on the Ostrava pages come from: the sources, their licences and how we join them up.

Addresses, neighbourhoods and residents

RÚIAN (the register of territorial identification, addresses and real estate), Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre: address points, city districts and the parts of the municipality we show as neighbourhoods. Residents per neighbourhood are from the 2021 census (Czech Statistical Office); the boundaries come from ČSÚ’s cadastral areas: a cadastral area without a neighbourhood of its name belongs to the neighbourhood with most of its addresses; Bělský Les, which has no cadastral area of its own, is outlined around its addresses.

Schools and kindergartens

The register of schools and school facilities, Ministry of Education (MŠMT), open data for the Moravian-Silesian Region: names, teaching addresses, founders, capacities and programmes of the schools that teach in Ostrava. We do not publish the names of founders who are private persons.

Catchment areas

School districts of primary schools and kindergartens, City of Ostrava, open data (licence CC BY-SA 4.0): the map of the districts, which we match to RÚIAN addresses and to the MŠMT register by the addresses the city lists for each district. In a shared district with several schools we list all its city and district schools. Please always check the catchment with the school or the city district before enrolment.

ČŠI inspections

Czech School Inspectorate (ČŠI), open data “Inspection reports” from the National Open Data Catalogue: when an inspection took place at the school and a link to the report on the ČŠI portal (reports since autumn 2016). We match them to schools by the headquarters identifier (RED_IZO) in the MŠMT register. The reports are written assessments; we don’t turn them into marks or points.

Rents

Ministry of Finance, rent price map (Act No. 151/1997 Coll. and Decree No. 456/2024 Coll.): rent per m² without services from rental offers, per cadastral area and four flat sizes, updated quarterly. A neighbourhood has the figures of the cadastral area most of its addresses lie in; the monthly rent is the price per m² times the usual floor area of rented flats in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Transport

The national timetable information system (CIS JŘ), Ministry of Transport: the timetables of Dopravní podnik Ostrava’s lines (buses, trams and trolleybuses) and of the regional ODIS bus lines into Ostrava (their stops in the city); ODIS trains (stopping and semi-fast trains ordered by the Moravskoslezský kraj) from Správa železnic’s yearly timetable, station positions from OpenStreetMap. Stop positions: Zastávky MHD, City of Ostrava, open data (licence CC BY 4.0). We compute the time to the centre ourselves from the timetables of an ordinary working day: the fastest journey to Náměstí Republiky in the morning and back after midnight, with changes and the walk from the address to the stop. Regional buses and trains are not included yet.

Doctors and pharmacies

The national register of healthcare providers (ÚZIS ČR): the places of care in Ostrava. Contracts with health insurers from the lists of contracted providers that VZP, ČPZP and VoZP publish, and the IČZ code list (ÚZIS, CC BY 4.0).

Shops, restaurants and services

OpenStreetMap © OpenStreetMap contributors, licence ODbL: shops, restaurants, services, sports grounds and playgrounds in Ostrava. We count how many addresses have such a place within 500 metres in a straight line.

Parks and forests

OpenStreetMap (licence ODbL, © OpenStreetMap contributors): parks (leisure=park, from 0.2 ha) and forests (landuse=forest, natural=wood, from 1 ha). For every RÚIAN address we measure the straight-line distance to the nearest one, for every neighbourhood their area inside its boundary.
