What is being built in Brno

A school and nursery for 810 children in 27 classrooms near the Brno-Židenice stop, teaching together with MU’s Faculty of Education. The design is done and the city is applying for a permit; ideally it opens for the 2032/2033 school year.

A nursery school with four classes for 100 children on Petra Křivky street, with room for two more classes later. The city is commissioning the design; construction could start in 2028.

A nursery school with eight to nine classes for up to 225 children on Dělostřelecká street in Královo Pole. The city is commissioning the design; construction could start in 2028.

The tram line extended from Bystrc to the Kamechy estate: 1.4 km of track with a 320 m tunnel and the stops Ruda, Říčanská and Kamechy. Under construction since 2025, the first trams are due at the end of 2027.

A new main station roughly where the lower station is today, behind the Zvonařka bus station. The project is being prepared; opening is expected in 2035.

The main street of the new Trnitá district, linking the centre with the future station; the northern part between Uhelná and Opuštěná has been under construction since January 2026. The southern part to the station is being designed, with work due to start in 2027.

The rebuilt grade-separated interchange on the D1 motorway by Kaštanová, built by the Road and Motorway Directorate. It is due to open towards the end of 2027.

A new road link along Markéty Kuncové street serving the growing Nová Zbrojovka district. Built by the City of Brno, completion is planned for November 2026.

A new link from the Černovická terasa industrial zone to the D1 motorway, prepared by the Road and Motorway Directorate. According to the city, work is likely to start in autumn 2026, with restrictions on the D1 from 2027.

A new complex for long-term patients on Červený kopec with 150 beds in single and double rooms. Construction is to start in 2027, with completion planned in 2029.

A new clinic of gynaecology, obstetrics and neonatology at the Brno University Hospital campus in Bohunice. In July 2026 the hospital withdrew from the contract with the builder but still plans the building and expects work to start during 2027.

A city project of 353 flats on Travní street: 280 cooperative and 73 municipal rental flats. The city plans to start building in 2026 and finish in 2030.

Desilting the lakes, a nature trail, piers and benches in the Holásecká jezera nature monument; one lake is to be open for swimming. Work is to start in 2027.

A concert hall for the Brno Philharmonic between Besední and Veselá streets. The part above ground has been under construction since 2025; the city plans completion in 2028 and the public opening in 2029.

A multi-purpose hall for sport and culture behind Pavilion Z, for about 13,000 spectators and with 1,300 parking spaces. Construction began in September 2023; the hall was handed over on 26 October 2026.

The former prison on Cejl is to become a centre with a multi-purpose hall, studios, rehearsal rooms, a library, a café and a memorial. The city applied for a building permit in February 2023; dates are not known yet.

Flood protection on the Svratka and Svitava from Komárov to the Uhelná viaduct and the Hladíkova bridge: lowered banks, earth dykes and low walls. Permitted since September 2025, construction is planned for 2027 to 2030.
