Where the faculties are

Ostrava's universities are at two ends of the city, so it pays to choose where to live by where you'll travel most often:

Trams run between Poruba and the centre all day, so living in the centre and commuting to the campus (or the other way round) works without a car. Living on the same tram line as your faculty often saves more time than living closer. The address check shows the way from a specific address to the stops.

Evenings and nights

Moravská Ostrava, Poruba and Mariánské Hory have the most restaurants and cafés; Stodolní street in the centre is a name in its own right. If you come back late, you'll appreciate the neighbourhoods you can reach fastest from the centre at night.

Flat sharing

  • All flatmates should be on the contract, or at least the landlord should agree to the sublet.
  • Agree in advance how you'll split the advance payments and the yearly settlement.
  • Treat the deposit and the handover report as carefully as with a flat of your own. The rules are summed up in the guide to the rental contract.
