Parking in Prague

Most of inner Prague lies in paid parking zones. How the zones work, what you pay as a visitor and what you need as a resident.

Three zone colours

  • Blue (resident): primarily for residents and subscribers with a permit for that area.
  • Purple (mixed): free for residents with a permit, everyone else pays for short-term parking.
  • Orange (short-term): for visitors, with a time limit.

You pay in an app or at a parking machine; the price and hours apply per street section and are shown for each one.

What visitors pay

Prices are set per street section: most often CZK 20 to 60 an hour, more in the centre and near tourist sights. For every neighbourhood and district (městská část) we show the share of addresses in a paid parking zone (zóna placeného stání) and what a visitor typically pays there, based on data on paid parking sections from IPR Praha and TSK.

Resident parking permits

For parking purposes, a resident is someone with permanent residence in the area or who owns property there. The permit for resident parking (rezidentní parkování) is bought for a year, six months or three months for a specific car and area (the whole district or a smaller sub-area). A second and further car costs considerably more than the first. The current price list and the application are on the City of Prague parking portal.

When choosing a flat

  • Check which area the address is in and how far it is to the nearest section with resident parking.
  • For a resident permit you need permanent residence in the area, or to own a flat there. Agree with your landlord that you can register at the flat.
  • If you don't have a car, see living without a car: the neighbourhoods with the best public transport and shops within walking distance.
