Which children enrol in 2027?
Children born from 1 Sept 2020 to 31 Aug 2021, who turn six by 31 August 2027, and children deferred last year. A child born between September and December can start a year early if ready for school.
How do I find the catchment school?
The City of Ostrava sets primary school catchment areas by ordinance, by permanent address. On Městomat you find the catchment school by entering the address, together with the catchment nursery school.
Does the catchment school have to accept my child?
Children with permanent residence in the catchment area have priority until the school is full. You can also apply to other schools, which admit by criteria published before the zápis.
How does a deferral of school attendance work?
The parent asks for it at the zápis, with recommendations from a school counselling centre and a specialist doctor or clinical psychologist. The additional deferral during the first year no longer exists since September 2025.
Can I apply to several schools?
Yes. If more of them accept your child, choose one and let the others know so the place goes to another child.
