The best neighbourhoods for families with children in Brno
A nursery and school nearby, playgrounds, a park and shops within walking distance. Which Brno neighbourhoods score best on these, and why it pays to check the catchment of the specific address.
What families need
We build the ranking from data on every address in the neighbourhood. Schools and nursery schools and playgrounds within walking distance count most, followed by a park or forest nearby, then, less, shops and doctors. A neighbourhood only scores well if it has everything together, not just one big school.

The catchment school matters more than the neighbourhood
A child gets priority at the catchment school based on their address of permanent residence, not the neighbourhood. Catchment boundaries often run down the middle of a street, so two neighbouring addresses can belong to different schools. Before you sign an agreement, check the catchment school and nursery for the flat's exact address.
Brno has 107 primary schools (ZŠ) and 176 nursery schools (MŠ). Each one has its curriculum, Czech School Inspectorate (ČŠI) reports, parents' reviews and a map.

- The way to school: can your child walk it alone? Are there big junctions or tram lines on the way?
- Nursery capacity: in new developments, nurseries are often full for the first few years after people move in.
- Paediatrician: paediatricians take on children according to capacity; check availability before you need one.
- Price: what a bigger flat costs is in the guide how much does rent cost in Brno. A typical 3+kk in Brno costs CZK 19 500 a month.
