Why a housing estate

Brno's housing estates were built mainly from the 1960s to the 1980s. The flats have practical layouts, there is usually plenty of green space and playgrounds between the buildings, shops and schools are right on the estate, and a tram, trolleybus or bus stops a short walk away. Many buildings are now insulated and renovated.

Lesná, Bystrc, Kohoutovice

How to read the comparison

  • Rent: the first row shows the typical rent in the neighbourhood. For a specific flat, how well the building is renovated also matters a lot.
  • Trip to the centre: the median public transport journey on a weekday morning. On an estate, how far you have to the tram matters a lot.
  • Green space, playgrounds, shops: how many addresses have a park, playground or shop nearby. For families with children, playgrounds and schools decide; for seniors, shops and doctors.
  • Schools and doctors: how many schools, GPs and pharmacies per thousand residents of the neighbourhood.

Check the specific building

On an estate the specific building matters a lot: whether it is insulated, where the windows face and how far it is to the stop. Check the flat's address before you sign the contract, and take the flat viewing checklist to the viewing.
