Cleanest air in the towns over 20,000 residents
61 towns over 20,000 residents by their average nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) concentration, cleanest first, like the Prague neighbourhood ranking. NO₂ comes mainly from traffic; we take the ČHMÚ five-year average on its 1×1 km grid over all the town’s addresses.
Source: ČHMÚ, five-year average concentrations on a 1×1 km grid, averaged over the town’s addresses. The ranking compares the Czech towns over 20,000 residents on Městomat without Prague, Brno and Ostrava, which have neighbourhood rankings of their own.
Frequently asked questions
Which Czech town over 20,000 residents has the cleanest air?
Among the 61 towns compared, Trutnov has the least nitrogen dioxide in the air: 9.0 µg/m³ as an annual average. Olomouc has the most: 16.6 µg/m³. The annual NO₂ limit is 40 µg/m³.
How is the ranking calculated?
For each of the town’s addresses we take the five-year average nitrogen dioxide concentration in the 1×1 km square it lies in (ČHMÚ) and average it over all addresses, so the more densely settled parts weigh more. Towns are ranked from the lowest value. We compare the Czech towns over 20,000 residents on Městomat without Prague, Brno and Ostrava, which have neighbourhood rankings of their own.
