Least fine dust in the air: towns over 20,000
61 towns over 20,000 residents by their average fine dust (PM2.5) concentration, lowest first. Fine dust comes mainly from home heating, traffic and industry; we take the ČHMÚ five-year average on its 1×1 km grid over all the town’s addresses.
Source: ČHMÚ, five-year average concentrations on a 1×1 km grid, averaged over the town’s addresses. The ranking compares the Czech towns over 20,000 residents on Městomat without Prague, Brno and Ostrava, which have neighbourhood rankings of their own.
Frequently asked questions
Which Czech town over 20,000 residents has the least dust in the air?
Among the 61 towns compared, Cheb has the least fine dust (PM2.5): 8.8 µg/m³ as an annual average. Bohumín has the most: 19.2 µg/m³. The annual PM2.5 limit is 20 µg/m³.
How is the ranking calculated?
For each of the town’s addresses we take the five-year average fine dust (PM2.5) concentration in the 1×1 km square it lies in (ČHMÚ) and average it over all addresses, so the more densely settled parts weigh more.
