Ostrava’s coolest neighbourhoods in summer
The coolest summer surface is in Radvanice (-2.6 °C against the city average against the city average), then Heřmanice and Stará Bělá. The middle neighbourhood is at +0.4 °C. Ranking of 24 neighbourhoods by satellite measurements.
How we calculate it
The neighbourhood’s median surface temperature on summer days (June to August) from Landsat 8 and 9 satellite images, averaged over several cloud-free days, as the difference from the city’s median: a negative figure means a cooler surface. It is the temperature of roofs, streets and lawns at the moment of the image, not the air temperature; trees and water cool, asphalt and roofs heat.
Without neighbourhoods with fewer than 2 000 residents: they are mostly fields or forest, and a handful of addresses would otherwise top every ranking. You’ll find them in the list of all neighbourhoods.
